Meh... 2013

Sigh, typing this in Brisbane right now. Last few days was pretty fun, went to wet n wild and a few beaches on the gold coast. Going to go to movie world and seaworld and shiz before coming back home to sydney. And oh man.. NYE in brisbane... it's like so empty. It probably has like 10% of the attendance of Sydney's NYE so it's really easy to get a good vantage spot. Unfortunately, we left at like 6pm so meh.. =/

But yeah.. NYE here in Brisbane is quite lonely. And last year, NYE in bloody Vietnam was even lonelier D: What worse, there's a very good chance that I'll be spending the last moments of 2013 in Vietnam again. Far out man, if that happens it would be 3 years since having a NYE in Sydney. Last one was... at the end of 2010/start of 2011. Pretty sweet. But yeah, don't know when I'll be able to go to atleast have an NYE with friends, not neccessarily in the city but just with any friends anywhere, preferably ringing in the new year with a good drink. And that sort of saddens me...  :(

And another thing, seriously man, in this house in Brisbane, the view/location is awesome. Like if you walk like down the street you can see the Brisbane skyline, but the net here is TERRIBLE. Like LoL and dramas is all I can do at night and yeah.
Pic related- my pretty sweet view

Soooo.. 2013. Hmm, guess it should be.. honestly, I want to say interesting but I really don't think much is going to change, it's not a completely new experience like going from year 12 to 1st year uni... However, there will be no more easy 12 hour commerce timetables, instead I'll have to face the horrors of being an engineering student. But I guess I shouldn't really be complaining, it's a the path I've chosen to take, as economics is so bloody boring. And I honestly wouldn't mind being an engineer. Well, we'll see.

To 2013, to the same old life, one more year closer to everything that will happen in my life, including my inevitable death (I KNOW, man that was dark!). Time travel in a way.. lol.

Peter, out for the year.
Happy new year to anyone who still reads my shit :)

Results- slightly disappointed.

So yeah, just received my results by zmail. Low 60s for both accounting and macroeconomics. I'm definitely not born to be an accountant or an economist. Distinctions for mathematics and finance, as expected.

So I guess I was right when I predicted a low 70s WAM (just above 70). Okay, I know I might not listen to my own advice/inner "stereotypical Asian father", but it's that time again.. critical self reflection! Yay!!

Okay, what did Peter do wrong during semester 2?

-Skipped entire lectures for the whole semester because they were either on too early or too late (accounting, math)
-Tried to use a laptop to take notes.. but this proved problematic when you had to draw diagrams or write up long equations.
-Tried to use a pen and paper to take notes.. not as bad but I can't write fast enough and I didn't look back at them alot.
-Slept in and missed out on an in-class test, losing like 3% of my total mark for one course.
-Forgot to do a graded online quiz because.. I'm just fail like that. lol, just slipped my mind.
-Skipped some lectures simply to sit around and talk with mates.
-Regularly did not do homework if it did not affect my mark.. when it did affect I mark I did minimum required for the marks

Okay, that was alot of fail right there.
Critical self reflection part 2:
What changes can I make in order to improve?
-Actually do the fucking homework, even if it does not count towards marks
-Turn up to the fucking lectures
-Similar to above, WAKE UP ON TIME
-Limit my "free" time to 2 hours a day on uni days
-Recognise that you can no longer cruise on the back of your high school knowledge

So yeah, slightly disappointed (this is the 2nd time I've spelt that word wrong and needed spellcheck to correct it.. thought it was spelt "dissapointed" but apparently not..)

And yeah, holidays are cool, pretty chill. TOO chill.
Peter out.

Detective Chief Inspector Peter Fox- Hero

A detective who has been with NSW Police for 35 years (and still is an active member) and has investigated countless cases of child sexual abuse and murder. Wrote an open letter  to the NSW Premier calling for a royal commission into cases of child sexual abuse and subsequent cover ups by the police and the church.

Evil flourishes when the good people do nothing.

I'm normally not particularly fond of police, but society does need people to investigate the most horrendous and ugly crimes out there and bring the offenders to justice. Good people like Detective Peter Fox, who I think is very brave to have the emotional strength to face these sick crimes and also to speak out against the institutional practice of protecting paedophile priests by shifting them around and church leaders knowing about but failing to report cases of abuse to police.

First interview

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2012-11-08/studio-interview-with-senior-nsw-detective-peter/4362100

PETER FOX: Oh, Tony, I think most people would be absolutely crumpled up in tears to hear it. Just some examples of what I've sat and listened to is that one young boy at the hands of paedophile priest James Fletcher, he was 12 years of age when the priest drove to a secluded park outside of Maitland. He told the boy to remove his pants and the boy was totally unaware of what was going on and quite embarrassed, but that particular priest anally penetrated him.

The boy wasn't aware at that stage that his anus had been torn and he started bleeding. He was screaming in agony on the seat and his knuckles were turning white. And as the priest continued to thrust while he screamed, he said he focused on the St Christopher's Cross on the dashboard and watched it swaying back and forward to try and take his focus off the pain.

The priest never relented at any stage during that, and even after the act was completed, he was totally uncaring for the child and simply sat back in the driver's seat and had a cigarette while he finished sobbing.

....

TONY JONES: This is actually - this is - as horrific as the litany of sexual crimes against children are, to me one of the most disturbing lines in your letter was along these lines: "I can testify from my own experience the Church covers up, silences victims, hinders police investigations, alerts offenders, destroys evidence and moves priests to protect the good name of the Church." You're saying you have evidence of all of this?

PETER FOX: Oh, not only do I have evidence, it's irrefutable. Most of that is fact that's been admitted by many of them. We encounter it all the time. For people to sit back and say it's not going on, they've got their head in the sand. The greatest frustration is that there is so much power and organisation behind the scenes that police don't have the powers to be able to go in and seize documents and have them disclose things to us.

TONY JONES: If things were covered up, if there was serious cover-up, how high up the chain did it go to your sure knowledge?

PETER FOX: I have definite information that - of some covering up certainly to a number of diocese bishops. It potentially goes even higher than that.

TONY JONES: Higher than that? You mean into the top levels of the Church hierarchy, is that what you're saying?

PETER FOX: That's correct. I've got no doubt.

Second interview
http://www.abc.net.au/news/2012-11-12/interview-with-detective-chief-inspector-peter-fox/4368082

PETER FOX: I don't want to go into it too deeply, but this is the end of my policing career. I realised that from the moment that I decided to speak out last week. As much as it's denied, the culture within the police force would never allow someone like me to move back into it.

.........

And he then went on to point out, he said, "We have wonderful big churches, we've got wonderful places of worship and they're ordained with jewels and they're all empty." They need to start asking why are they empty? Because if you can't change, that's not going to change. If the Church really is genuine, they need to stop making the comments that Cardinal Pell made today.

If he can't stop moving them - saying those comments, move along and let someone else come in that is a little bit more conciliatory, that has got more of a compassion, an open ear. The way Cardinal Pell treated the foster family in Melbourne whose two daughters suicided after abuse was nothing short of disgraceful.

I think he needs to have a real hard look in the mirror and go back and say, "Why did I want to become a priest? Somehow I've got into this position now where it seems to be all about how much money can I save through the compensation schemes? How can I protect the reputation of the Church? How can I protect this priest that I used to go through the seminary with?"

That doesn't matter. It should be: "How can I protect these little children? How can I look after these victims? How can I care for them and give them compensation and help them get over the trauma?" That's where we should be looking. So I'm hoping that the royal commission will do some of that.

One more to go.

So yeah, finished my.. macroeconomics, business finance and accounting 1B exams already... only math1131 to go.

Outlook? I'd say.. low 70s on average/maybe 68 or 69 if I'm terrible. Be so happy if it were over 75 WAM but I really doubt it.
And the accounting exam today.. ARGHHH.. I'm such a dumbass. Spent the morning looking at tech news instead of actually studying. As a result, not feeling too confident in that one D: Looking at around 70%.

.. *incoming technology rant*

In other news... although it was a long time coming, the new nexus devices are out. And holy shit, those prices. Seriously bro, the nexus 4 (available in 8/16GB) has:
- a 1.5ghz quad core processor (next generation standard, the current generation, A9, is what the galaxy s3 and most other popular phones are running)
-2GB RAM
-a (slightly) better screen than the SGS3 and iPhone 5
-NFC and wireless charging, Android 4.2 etc.
The only thing it's missing is a microSD card slot and a removable battery and it would be absolutely perfect (LTE is a battery drainer and just isn't that useful in Australia ATM).

And the price... $400 in Australia. That's insane compared to the top of the line phones ATM, with the iPhone 5 16GB costing twice as much, $800 (for inferior specs too) and a galaxy s3 retailing for around $600.

Yeah, I'm a tech nerd. I've accepted it for a long time already. But yeah... dang. I want a nexus 4 now. Google/LG's profit margins must be insanely low for this product.

OH and not to mention the Nexus 10 which has a superior screen to the iPad retina and is also like $100 cheaper.

You may think I hate Apple from reading that- I dont, I just think their products are overpriced and playing catch-up on competitors that they used to be miles ahead of (iPad, iPod touch, iPhone 1 to 4 led the market when they were released IMO)

*end rant*
So it has come again to that time where I make my end of year break resolution. Remember last year's one where I said I'd watch all these movies and get my Ps and learn to pick locks... Well I eventually learned to pick locks and got my Ps but still haven't gotten around to those movies yet.

Okay, so here are the movies that I must watch because I haven't seen them before:

-Titanic (only seen half)
-The Lion King
-Matrix trilogy
-LOTR trilogy
-Schindler's list
-Godfather movies
-Ponyo

Also, I have to catch up on Naruto.. I'm like a year behind- stopped reading at the very start of the great ninja war. Oh yeah, and have to gym and get a job (ha. ha. haha.)

Peter- awesome driver, terrible student.

Hello reader,

As you might know already, I passed my driving test. hahahaha. The examiner was sooo chill, just talked randomly about uni, local suburbs, school while taking the test. So yes, now I can drive by myself.   It'll be a while before I can drive the Kluger with quad-8 number plates but meh... a car is just supposed to get you from A to B.
In other news, I'm a complete and utter failure of a uni student (okay, it's not that bad). Cruising through first year on the back of last year's sorta-hard work and a little study.

So that's why I'm going to go serious-mode for these finals:

-One LoL game a day except in special circumstances where I can allow myself to play two
-Spend more time in the library
-Completely sober after Wednesday (all you can eat korean BBQ with one free beer and cheapish soju) until after all my exams are over

Oh yeah, that reminds me.. Last Friday night... blew atleast $70 on food and drinks... Consumed.. quite a bit, but not enough to fuck me up completely. Still... was good until the end when it starts to actually affect you. Never doing that again? Sif. But definitely not for a while.
And oh man... haven't worked out in agessssssss. Like agessssssssss. almost a month :(

So yes... Also have to find a holiday job. Life right now... mixed. Depends on how I go in my exams.

Oooh.... what's this in the mail?
Awwwww yeahhhhhh.

Peter's wishlist/buylist *edited*

Yay for mindless consumerism. Well whatever, just thought I'd share the things I want and will probably buy when I'm feeling YOLO (lol..) .

By end of 2012:

Definitely: Audio Technica ATH-M50 headphones with coiled wire, better than Beats, half the price. (~$140)
Possibly: Google Nexus 7 tablet (16GB), because it seems awesome and good value ($280 @ kogan)

*EDIT*
Oh... and this...definitely. positively. 100%.
*goes crazy*
....
....
....

By late 2013:

Definitely: New laptop (Thinkpad X1 Carbon or Asus Zenbook Prime or their successors), because I want to run DOTA2 in a very light package (~$1300-1400 right now)
Possibly (if I'm feeling stupid): Fenix LD-20 flashlight, because who doesn't want a flashlight so powerful it can give people temporary blindness? (~$60, yes.. that's pretty insane for a flashlight.)

By mid 2014:

Definitely: Samsung Galaxy S4 or S5 or latest nexus phone, hopefully it's powerful enough to run crysis or atleast LoL (~$60/month on contract or $550 unlocked)
Possibly: New gaming rig in place of current desktop PC, we're running on a core2duo PC right now man! (#firstworldproblems)

Well.. if I follow this.... it would mean that smartphones are replaced every 2 years, laptops every 3.5 years and desktop PCs every 4/5 years. Seem excessive? I guess so but hey, it's actually pretty average. You keep things long enough to make good use of your purchase but replace them once every few years so you can feel the massive jump in technology.

One Year.

I almost forgot about the one year anniversary of this blog/rant space until I saw all those pictures of this year's year 12 graduating. So yeah, it's been one year since this, the very first post. Hmm.. how do I feel about it? I'm not sure.

Does life get better after graduation? Depends, but mostly yes. You miss your friends who you'll no longer see every day, every week. But then you gain more freedom and you are released from the burdensome chains of the HSC, free to carve your own path in life. But then again, all this wasn't in my mind when I wrote that post, sobbing quite badly towards the end, contemplating the enormity of the loss :*(
The day afterwards was graduation, and the crying was even worse. Like no joke, I haven't cried in a year, the graduation was the last time, a blip in a long period of non-crying (lol.)..

*I always feel like I should split my wall of text with a picture to make it look better, so here it is*

Well.. yeah. I feel like I haven't changed AT ALL. I think this is a bad thing. If anything, it's been a negative change because these days I'm so bloody lazy. Well.. I did get my braces off (finally) but other than that, same Peter, the good and the bad (I know what you're thinking. >Peter, >good? what a joke).

So what's going to happen now with this thing? Dunno, I'll probably just keep posting whenever I feel like it to a semi-random schedule and try, TRY to actually get some work done.

In true Fort Street fashion, I shall end this one with a quote.
"It's not who you are underneath. It's what you do that defines you."
If you know where that's from, you're cool like me! :D

Driving test.... 3rd attempt

So.. 3rd time lucky... hopefully. 1st exam, drive like a maniac driver in Vietnam, almost ran over three people. 2nd attempt, drove perfectly until the very last moment. So... given the exponential improvement, hopefully... Finally.

So yeah, typing this up on a train. I'm still hungry after a krispy kreme glazed donut and a tiny bite of a hungry jacks burger. Only Granville =/

Well... I might get rolled here so I'll finish this post tomorrow.

*20 hours later*

Sigh, failed that one again. Frequent signalling and observation (head check) errors. OMFG. So 1 insta-fail (gave way to someone who was supposed to give way to me) and 2 accmulated fails (signalling and observation). Yeah, my father is not too happy about that. :(

Moving on, I've always wanted to be a spy. Like James Bond or Jason Bourne (and their initials are both JB). Sounds quite cool, just saying.
Well... onto a more realistic proposition. One day, I shall pick someone on the train at random and follow them around for the whole day. Like follow them on their way to work and shiz, just to see  here it takes me and to see if they notice at all. I need to hone my stalking skills *evil laugh*

Monday, 3 September 2012

Driving tests and yeah..

So... what did I do today.. Oh yeah, tried to get my Ps and failed. again.
ALKDJSLFKDJFLDJ
I was doing great, obeying the speed limit, not running people over, checking my blind spots until right at the end. Waited too long to turn at a busy road. Failed right there. T___T
Sigh, well, I've already booked for another test in 2 weeks. Fingers crossed~
Last. Fucking. Item. Right at the end.
......

What motivates people in life? What makes people want to not procrastinate and get shit done?
Man.. I really need to do some study. I know I keep saying that but yeah. I've basically been cruising on natural ability for the past... actually, I've been cruising on natural ability my entire life   (that sounds like me thinking I'm top shit.. that's not what I mean. Just that I have never put in 100% effort into anything.)
So yeah...
All this for... 20 bucks :D

OH yeah, am I the only one who gets really... "emotional/inspired" when watching the Paralympics? Like... these men and women are such inspiring, dedicated individuals who give 100% despite the challenges and setbacks they face.

I just find that really amazing. Like people who are born without limbs who don't let it stop them from becoming elite athletes. It's a real shame that these individuals don't get as much media/public  attention as the other athletes, they really deserve to. You may not decide the cards you are dealt, but you do decide how to use them.
Does this sound hypocritical considering how lazy and unmotivated I am? Yeah, probs. Oh well.

Father's day present :O It's as old as me!

Made my own duct tape wallet. Much slimmer than my leather one :)

Braces off! :D *edit*

Uhhh.. so as the title says... got mah braces off today. Surprisingly did not hurt at all and you get this nice feeling when you run your tongue along the front of your teeth.
So.... 2 years, $6k-ish has led up to this. Worth it? Totally. Well.. my teeth weren't totally fucked up but they were noticeably crooked and bumpy =/
But yeah, now they're awesome, straight and not bumpy =D Maybe it's only the incredibly self-conscious and shallow part of me that's happy but whatever, still cool.
...
In other news, I've started using my laptop for uni and taking notes with Evernote. I'm not even sure why I'm doing this, maybe I should be using OneNote instead... Really can't be stuffed using pen and paper.
Ah... asian parents.

So yeah... teeth are all good now.
Next steps: fix mah dry skin and get to 65kg bodyweight.
*yes, I'm a shallow, self-consious fuck.*

*edit*

Catching up

So I was going to write this post a week ago but I couldn't be bothered so I'll write it now....

I have a dream. I have a dream that one day, the Olympics will come back to its roots in Ancient Greece.
..
Imagine this. It's an Olympic sport which is basically gladiator combat. Every nation selects one person (can be ANYONE, male/female, 50kg/150kg) to compete against other nations' fighters. I imagine it to be on a large football pitch, or in the stadium where the opening ceremony is held.
Like this without weapons and armour

So yeah, you've got 200 or so of each nation's best fighter in a giant arena. What now? They beat the crap out of each other until there is only one fighter remaining, with everyone else being removed from the arena due to injury or an arbiter's decision.

Oh yeah, about those arbiters (referees). They'll be stationed around the arena, being clearly identifiable with flouro shirts or something. They remove fighters who are getting dominated too hard from the fight.

Rules of "Gladiators"
-You can do anything you want except to arbiters and fighters in their care.
That's it.

Oh man.. Imagine the spectacle. 200 of the world's best fighters beating the crap out of each other for the glory of the nation. *drools at sheer awesomeness*

These batman pictures don't relate to what I'm saying in any way. I just like them :3

....

Okay, enough of my barbaric fantasies and back to real life.
So yeah, I've dropped ECON1202 (quantitative analysis) and picked up MATH1131. Went to tutorial, it was...... complex numbers. LOL. And out of the class of about 16, there was one girl. Must have sucked to be the only girl in the class.

......
dat m/f ratio of 15 =.=

But moving along, yes. So now I'm doing a subject where I'm 4 weeks behind on content.
So... goal for the weekend:
Catch up.

Peter... accountant/analyst....... engineer?

Hello there to whoever is bothered enough to still read my blog :)
Another life update:
My family just got bigpond ultimate cable installed today. The result:
And that's for the laptop. The desktop is even higher ^^ Like insanely fast, 9 ping and 37mbps :)

And yeah.. I'm starting to dislike the ECON part of my degree. I don't know, it's just... meh. Like for my accounting and finance courses, you actually interact with others and discuss problems together... that's what I actually enjoy.
Whereas in ECON1202 and ECON1102, it's alot more depressing. Do homework, come into class and watch teacher explain the questions/concepts for 55 minutes and then leave. There's not much to discuss anyway, so no one bothers talking (including me).

Also, I'm concerned about putting all my eggs in one basket as far as job prospects go. Like, economics and commerce are pretty much the same area in terms of industry so if the financial sector goes down the shitter, GG.

So that's why I'm considering doing engineering. So let's list pros and cons:

Advantages:
-There's a current shortage of engineers
-I like being in a class where you work with others rather than sit there and watch passively
-They get paid big money, refer to first point
-I'm pretty decent at maths and physics

Disadvantages:
-Adds an extra 1.5 years to my degree and 9k in debt (grand total is like 46k =/ )
-Total sausage-fest. Like the m/f ratio is insanely high. not around 1:1 in comm.
-Not as easy as some comm subjects

So yeah... we'll see.

THE DARK KNIGHT RISES. *edit*

Wow. Just wow. Watched The Dark Knight Rises today from 420 to 725pm. Holy fucking shit. Like motherfucking wow, legit probably the best movie I've ever seen, approaching a 10/10. Like... someone kill me now so I can die satisfied..

Although it does require you to suspend your disbelief at times, overall, a great, satisfying finale to the Nolan Batman series. You don't want it to end but if it had to, well this was a pretty good ending. First movie where I stayed until the end of the credits. Acting, flawless, especially Christian Bale and Anne Hathaway and Tom Hardy. Oh what the hell, they were all really good.

Never cried during a film, but there have only been two that have brought me close to crying (only teary eyes). Toy Story 3 (which was released when I was finishing high school so yeah, nostalgia overload) and this one, towards the end which I will not spoil.

Okay, my first 2 boys are definitely named Bruce and Wayne. But now, the girl is Selina instead of Rachel ^^ Maybe if I have another boy I'll name him Kyle.

Bruce, Wayne, Selina, Kyle =D

Now.. what to do with my life?
costumes on display <3

 *goes crazy*

*edit*- a great actor, an even greater human being.

Year 1, Semester 1 Results

72.5 WAM. 81 stats, 75 accounting, 73 microeconomics and.......... motherfucking 61 management.

AAAAAARRRRGGGGHHHHHHHH

AAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH

AAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHHHh

MOTHERFUCKING MANAGEMENT
AARRRRGGGGHHHH

But yeah, whatever. I was hoping for atleast a distinction but I guess it could be worse. By my parents' expectations, it's a satisfactory result. Not a great result, but not a completely shitty one either. I feel the same way. Motherfucking meh.

Just so regretful that I fucked up management so hard. Like man, not even a credit for that shit. But it's okay. I will use this experience and work harder to get up to 75 WAM. I will not fuck up next time. I will not fuck up next time. I will not fuck up next time.

Well, to be fair, I only truly fucked up one exam but yeah.

*initiate psychopathic Peter, deactivate normal Peter*
Hello everyone, psycho Peter here. I'm like high-expectations asian father but just for Peter and I exist in his head.
So yeah~
Fuck you all. Fuck this shit. Peter, why did you fuck up so much? Like holy shit man, you got a PASS in one of the easiest subjects in commerce. FUCK YOU MOTHERFUCKER, RUINING OUR LIVES WITH YOUR FUCKING BULLSHIT. Sigh, you better do alot better next semester or I'll take over and do some crazy shit.
psycho Peter out.

Soooooo yeah. Normal me again. Whatever. Hope to do better next semester. Have to do better next semester.

Noggi, 3 maxi bowls which we couldn't finish. Think I'll be sick of it for a while.

Random thingos

Yeah... this is just another "whatever I feel like writing" post.
slept at 5am, woke up at 4pm today. My sleep schedule is extremely fucked up. Why. Why do I do this to myself!??!? Oh yeah, and I have no broadband until the 17th of July.. fml.
...
No more watching documentaries/anime online for over 2 weeks =/ so bloody boring, can't sleep.
...
Lulz, haven't drank in 7 days since that Friday where it was.. 7.5 shots of vodka, 1 cider, 1 double black. Oh yeah, about that- felt perfectly fine for the most part, I think it's really hard for me to get completely wasted and I don't experience the Asian flush at all. Yay for genetics :D My body simply "rejects" any excess alcohol so yeah, it's all good ^^. Would have drank more if I didn't have to go home to my parents =/
..
Sigh, can't wait to move out. To a flat with access to gym and pool/spa facilities. Ooh yeah, that'd be so awesome. Squats whenever I feel like.
..
Also, watched the Google I/O at 4am last night. Wow... $200 for a 7-inch, 720p, quad-core tablet =O HOLY SHIT. Also, wow, Google Glass. Look it up, looks weird but awesome at the same time. It's like having a camera attached to your eyes :)

Random things found on my phone:
Pizza =D =D =D
New G400 gaming mouse next to old crappy mouse. The difference in performance is very noticeable.
What I use to play LoL nowadays.
Korean BBQ. meh, too many spicy things =[

Saturday, 16 June 2012

Yeah. Fucked up... sort of.

Hmmm.. exams are all over. Did pretty well for stats, did ok for microeconomics. Shit, fucked up that management and accounting D: like holy fucking shit, got owned so bad, questions were the ones I didn't really prepare for... Guess for WAM.... 70-75%? Sigh... only goes downhill from here.
My life.

Moving on... well.. 4 weeks of holidays. What do?!?! Watch movies, watch anime, work out, go places, drink, play games.. sigh. Am I missing something? Did I mention drinking? Yeah man, haven't had a drink in over TWO WEEKS. HOLY SHIT HOLY SHIT HOLY SHIT.

Yeah.
....
....
....
28 year old Peter going to have some real big problems.. :)

I LOL'd.
Oh yeah, watched Prometheus today (or should I say last night). A decent but weird film... not scary at all despite the trailer. And.. holy shit, got to watch the BATMAN TRAILER ON THE BIG SCREEN.
So.. fucking... epic.

That sinking feeling and self-hatred

I am mentally weak.
I am emotionally weak.
I cannot control myself.
I cannot control my emotional impulses and my actions.

I am only human... no. shut the fuck up and stop making excuses you piece of shit.

Urgh... They say your harshest critic is yourself. I guess that's probably true. Do you ever get those moments when your heart/chest/stomach has this sinking feeling?
The feeling that pretty much says "YOU. ARE. SO. FUCKED."? That's how I feel right now.

My first memory of this horrible feeling was during high school. Being the dumbass I was back then, I decided to do something really really stupid. While the teacher was away from the classroom (and I knew she wasn't coming back for a while), I pulled out my USB and played counterstrike on her computer in front of the whole class..

Then when she came back I quickly tried to hide my actions but the computer crashed and could not boot up. There was HSC work on that computer... This particular teacher then became very worried, saying things like "what the fuck have you done!?!?".. So she tried booting up the computer but it would not work.

That sinking "YOU. ARE. SO. FUCKED." feeling was so fucking horrible during that time.. thinking of the possibility of ruining a HSC student's work and getting my ass kicked.

But then the day after I found out that the computer had been fixed and everything was good, no damage done ^_^
Moral of the story: don't mess with shit you aren't familiar with.

..

So that leads me to right now, where I'm having that sinking feeling right now. Why?
A simple lack of self-control.

My unwillingness and inability to control myself and my actions/emotional impulses at a critical time such as this. Wasting time on meaningless and trivial things (such as... this... how ironic.) when I should really be focused on nothing else but studying my ass off for the finals.

Finals which start in under two days. Finals that I am hopelessly unprepared for. Hence, the current "YOU. ARE. SO. FUCKED." sinking feeling in my heart/chest/stomach and my self-hatred.

100% of my non-formal , non-athletic "everyday" shoes are from onitsuka tiger.
I might have problems..
but.... they're so nice D:

Officially an adult.

I feel happy and not so happy at the same time, but mostly happy... for now.
Happy that:
*I went drinking legally at licensed venues
*ate a part of 1 metre + 0.5 metre pizzas where my share of the bill was very kindly shouted
*went to karaoke and sang cool, manly songs like "call me maybe" and "what makes you beautiful" :p
*security guards said "happy birthday" after checking my ID LOL
*spent the evening with good friends eating good pizza, drinking good drinks and singing good songs (then molina randomly showed up out of nowhere during our karaoke session lol..)

My parents did not rage at all when I got home. They just said something along the lines of "now that you're an adult, you have more privileges but also more personal accountability/responsibility. Don't do stupid shit, the consequences are much greater now." Did not mention one bit about my possible drinking at all.

Yay! I guess...........

Did I mention the one metre pizza? <3

Well... the downside:
*got pretty much zero work done today. stats final exam in less than one week D:
*felt sick at times. almost 5 standard drinks in less than 50 minutes on an empty stomach is very very bad idea.
*my liver got its ass kicked
*worried about the security of my passport constantly (shit is expensive and time consuming to replace)
*the karaoke place did not have payphone by maroon 5 #firstworldproblems
"tooheys is diversifying into the apple juice market"
Beautiful view, very good pizza. quality AND quantity
why? because it's a very catchy song ^^ (it's call me maybe if you can't tell)
Life's good :)

Things I've learnt during my time as a minor

So yeah, only a few hours until I'm technically an adult. As such, I will soon be able to do cool shit like go to clubs/bars/liquor stores ^^ So let's recap what I've learnt during my years as a minor:

-The education system is flawed as fuck. Just be reasonably intelligent, attend lots tutoring and pick the high scaling subjects and you'll do pretty well even if you're really lazy (ie. me). Does not reward actual intelligence at all as much as it rewards rote-learning and attendance at tutoring colleges.

-Talent/"giftedness" does not mean much if there is no motivation driving it to a worthy cause. Motivation/determination (something that I probably lack) is a greater gift than raw intelligence.

-Don't bother/think about religion too much. You have your views, they have theirs, no one is going to budge so why bother? I'm glad to be from a non religious family which only goes to the temple like a few times a year, more as a cultural tradition than an actual religious practice.. so I guess my view is biased but whatever. Nothing changes, move on to better things.

-(applies to nearly all asians): Your parents may love you and want you to do well in life, but they are overprotective and you should not follow some of their advice. It's okay to skip school in your early years, drink (not too early), and go out with friends once, twice or thrice in a while.

-People can be stupid as fuck. Think about the level of intelligence that an average person has. Half the population is even dumber. Everyone is a hypocrite.

-Crying actually makes you feel better (most of the time).

-If there's a chance you'll see them again, try to not piss them off. On a similar note, try to be nice to everyone (or atleast not a dickhead to them).

-You are incredibly lucky to be living in such a good country. To have clean, hot water easily available and to live in a society which is reasonably peaceful and harmonious.

-Get braces as early as you can. I kept putting it off until year 11 and yeah :(

-Racist jokes are funny. Racism is not.

-You should do more squats.

Randomly browsing YouTube at 3am *edited*

So yeah, randomly browsing YouTube, one thing led to another and I arrived here at Liam Payne's audition. Seriously, best voice out of all of them by a long long long way, so much like Michael Bublé's. Respect.
(starts at around 1:45)
Now I shall go downstairs and cook 5 eggs.
*edit*
Basically,
children aren't special,
parents who put too much pressure on their children to perform are practicing a very sophisticated form of child abuse,
if everyone is special then the term becomes meaningless
etc. etc.

watch it.

Quotes from the wise Master (Yi) Peter

[1:01:40 AM] peter h: i swear i should record these words for future generations - on this blog post

"If you're defending, you're not attacking. If you're not attacking, you're not winning."- on LoL/Starcraft gameplay

[12:59:42 AM] peter h: abs come and go, talent is forever (y) - on why Adam Levine > Rain (the korean artist)

"if you want to get me drunk, it's going to cost atleast $50."
"don't worry, I'm not going to get wasted, I'm too broke." -on .... quantum physics. obviously.

Well... I'd just like to say that it's been a truly wonderful 6 years of my life. I could have easily been a Hurlstone kid if it wasn't for a last minute offer to this school. I only accepted the offer because Fort street was like 5 ranks higher.

But if it wasn't for that naivety, I wouldn't be who I am today, with all the great experiences I've had. My only regret is not getting to know more of you awesome people. Love you all very much, will miss you dearly. Thanks so much for everything, even if it doesn't seem like much. :')
♥
-on facebook fshs2011 group, crying the night before graduation =/

"cool story bro" (and variants) - on pretty much anything and everything

"jesus fucking christ"/"goddamn it"/"fucking hell"/"arghhhhh"/"you've got to be fucking kidding me" - whenever something bad happens during LoL

An interesting business idea

While procrastinating for the 4 assessments I have due in the next 2 weeks, my mind wandered off and latched onto an idea. Basically, it's what you would get if you combined a bar with 24 hour CityHunter and CityHeroes, with starcraft/LoL/Dota/sports matches being broadcast on large TVs.

So in this place that I shall call.. GG (Good Games) Inn or GG Bar, there's two sections- the licensed (18+) area (which serves alcohol) with gaming computers (and chairs with cup-holders for your drink) and large TVs and couches/tables... and the general area for with more gaming computers and pool tables.

The cost per hour of the computers in the licensed area would be more than the general area but it would be semi private sections (10 people each) with better hardware/chairs and a button in each room where you can order drinks/snacks so you don't need to be afk for too long.

It wouldn't even take that many staff to run... 2 people at reception, 2 bar tenders/waiters, 1 security guard and 1 waiter/cleaner/support person.

What I would consider "good" prices in such a place:
1 hour (General) - $3
1 hour (Licensed) - $4
1 hour (Pool) - $15

10pm to 8am 1 hour Pool - $12
10pm to 8am "All Nighter" 10 hour deal- $25 Licensed
10pm to 8am "All Nighter" 10 hour deal- $20 General

Drinks (stops serving after 1am):
Beer/cider- $5, Jug (1.136 L) for $12
Premium beer/cider/Smirnoff- $6.50

Currently drawing a sketch of the interior design :), might post if I feel like ..
*update* woots, 77% of accounting assessment complete, currently on 91% =D

Creepy shit

Fuck man, this is so fucking creepy:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dyatlov_Pass_incident
A summary with copy/pasted excerpts from the wiki article:
The Dyatlov Pass incident resulted in the deaths of nine ski hikers in the northern Ural mountains on the night of February 2, 1959. It happened on the east shoulder of the mountain Kholat Syakhl (Холат-Сяхыл) (a Mansi name, meaning Mountain of the Dead).
The lack of eyewitnesses has inspired much speculation. Soviet investigators determined only that "a compelling unknown force" had caused the deaths.

An examination of the four bodies which were found in May changed the picture. Three of them had fatal injuries: the body of Thibeaux-Brignolle had major skull damage, and both Dubunina and Zolotarev had major chest fractures. According to Dr. Boris Vozrozhdenny, the force required to cause such damage would have been extremely high. He compared it to the force of a car crash. Notably, the bodies had no external wounds, as if they were crippled by a high level of pressure. One woman was found to be missing her tongue.[1] There had initially been some speculation that the indigenous Mansi people might have attacked and murdered the group for encroaching upon their lands, but investigation indicated that the nature of their deaths did not support this thesis; the hikers' footprints alone were visible, and they showed no sign of hand-to-hand struggle.[1]

Although the temperature was very low (around −25° to −30°C) with a storm blowing, the dead were only partially dressed. Some of them had only one shoe, while others had no shoes or wore only socks.[1] Some were found wrapped in snips of ripped clothes that seemed to have been cut from those who were already dead.

Journalists reporting on the available parts of the inquest files claim that it states:
  • Six of the group members died of hypothermia and three of fatal injuries.
  • There were no indications of other people nearby apart from the nine travelers on Kholat Syakhl, nor anyone in the surrounding areas.
  • The tent had been ripped open from within.
  • The victims had died 6 to 8 hours after their last meal.
  • Traces from the camp showed that all group members left the camp of their own accord, on foot.
  • To dispel the theory of an attack by the indigenous Mansi people, Dr. Boris Vozrozhdenny stated that the fatal injuries of the three bodies could not have been caused by another human being, "because the force of the blows had been too strong and no soft tissue had been damaged".[1]
  • Forensic radiation tests had shown high doses of radioactive contamination on the clothes of a few victims.[1]
The final verdict was that the group members all died because of a "compelling unknown force". The inquest ceased officially in May 1959 as a result of the "absence of a guilty party". The files were sent to a secret archive, and the photocopies of the case became available only in the 1990s, with some parts missing.[1]

... Yeah. pretty creeped out by this. the fear of the unknown, of death by violent and mysterious circumstances.
